2019 Challenges for entry into the league in 2020 are as follows:

North Women
Futbol United/Powerplay FC - Qualified

Edmonton Green & Gold will retain their spot in the AMSL for the 2020 season

South Men
Calgary Rangers Sportif FC - Qualified

Calgary Villains Elite will retain their spot in the AMSL for the 2020 season

Challenges must be submitted to Alberta Soccer from the relevant Senior district association by May 1st annually and meet the citeria outlined in the AMSL Operating Rules, Section 12) Relegation and Promotion. 

Only one team will in the North and one team in the South will  be eligible to challenge for each division, the last placed North team and last placed South team respectively.

Teams must finish in first place of league play to qualify to challenge.  Update: EDSA revised their qualification rule to allow the highest placing, nonAMSL Reserve Team to qualify as of March 2019

In cases where  more than one team  has declared their intention to challenge for a particular division (North and/or South), a series of games if required (as outlined in Section 12 of the AMSL Operating Rules) will take place to determine who will ultimately participate in the challenge series to enter the league the next season. 

Note: Should either of the CPL U20 Teams competing in the AMSL Men's Division end the season in last place, they are not subject to challenges, the second last place finisher in the Men's Division would be.

In a challenge series:

  1. Head to head games with aggregate score for the two matches will be used

    1. AWAY GOALS WILL NOT BE COUNTED as this is not covered in rule 10 of the AMSL Operating Rules

  2. If the score is tied after the two games the following will occur immediately following the second challenge match:

    1. 2 x 15 minute halves and if the score is still tied

    2. Penalty Kicks as per FIFA Laws
